The Air Program is concerned with source characterization, exposure levels and health impacts to community members from heavy metals such as nickel, cadmium, lead, zinc, and chromium, contained in the air. Funded for three years through the US EPA, the Air Program has set up two metals samplers at a Raquette Point resident's property.

The sampling techniques for collecting metals is quite similar to the apparatus used in the PAH study. Both are housed in similar shelters, use the same motors and times, only the filters are different. The samplers draw a measured quantity of ambient air into the housing and through an 8x10 inch filter during a 24-hr sampling period. The sampler flow rate and the geometry of the shelter favor the collection of particles up to 25-50mm.

This is a new project for the year 2000 and at present, there is not enough data to present to the community.
