Tires in snow

Tire Recycling News
The Tribe’s Solid Waste Program held its first tire collection program for the community this past fall. Community members were allowed to bring tires to the Tribe’s transfer station for free. In total, 1100 tires were collected.

The Tribe is currently soliciting proposals from tire recycling companies to have the tires recycled.

The Tribe will be holding another free collection program later in 2007. Check back for details.

We made operational changes in order to reduce our costs. The major change included going to a once per week collection for our blue bag pay-as-you-throw program. This change allowed us to keep the cost of the blue bags at the same price as the previous year.

Some new changes will also occur in the upcoming year. Namely, we will be working on a biodiesel project with Clarkson University. This project will allow us to create biodiesel fuel from waste vegetable oil. The biodiesel fuel will then be used to operate all of our equipment that operates on diesel fuel.

If you have any questions about this program or any type of solid waste management, please contact the SRMT at
